Southville International School and Colleges’ International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme opened an art gallery featuring the interdisciplinary artworks of IB 2 students. From mirror sculpting to painting, and digital art to photography, among others, the gallery encompasses 17 great works of the promising artists.
Sarah Jane Calub Allison, whose works include the “Aging Eye,” “Dawn to Dust” and the “Tree of Life,” shared that although “painting is kind of her weakness,” she “challenged herself” and indeed accomplished such masterpieces. The concept of highlighting the many facets of a coconut and the stages of the human eye came up when while in a beach, a coconut dropped from a tree and she “saw the idea.”
Another artist, Samantha Tongo, did an “interactive” mirror sculpture interpretation of the “Kingdom of Heaven” and “Dante Infierno” wherein anyone can form different images by arranging the pieces similar to a puzzle. The biggest “interactive piece” one can form is the mirror itself. She also made “The Lighthouse,” an artwork featuring several images taken with liquid as a camera filter with the pictures representing Sam’s life herself.
The art exhibit is the final examination of IB 2 students who are taking Visual Arts under Mr. Claro Ramirez, a renowned visual artist. Artists and enthusiasts may still visit the exhibit. For reservation, contact Christian Gabriel, the IB Facilitator at 825-6374 loc 130 or Melanie Bontogon at 829-1675.
