IB Students Learn About “The Lost Icon”

Posted on December 8, 2009

First year and second year International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) students learned about the several unique facets of various countries around the world through their first symposium series of the year, The Lost Icon: Iconology and Cultural Understanding, held in the SISC Mini-Theater on November 20, 2009.
Notable speakers during the event were Mr. Colin Crokin, Deputy Ambassador; United Kingdom; Mr. Ross Bray, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, Australia; and Mrs. Panagiota Barmpalion, Political and Human Rights Officer of the European Commission.
The three speakers expounded on the six icons of their respective countries, understanding that geography, politics and government, music and culture, education, history and people play vital roles in the total impact of their countries.
The students, majority of whom aim to study abroad, were given a preview of what life is like in the said countries. The symposium for this term was organized by Samantha Tongo, IB 2 Class President and Hye Yong Kim, IB 2 Class Vice President under the over-all leadership of Mr. Andre Estanislao, the SISC IB Director.
The IB Diploma Program is still accepting applicants for this Academic Year. For more information contact the IB Office at 8256374 local 130.
